New Light-Sensing Mechanism Found in Neurons

Posted on 7th March 2011 in Biology, Science

A UC Irvine research team led by Todd C. Holmes has discovered a second form of phototransduction light sensing in cells that is derived from vitamin B2. This discovery may reveal new information about cellular processes controlled by light.

Mighty Mice Regrow Organs

Posted on 14th January 2011 in Biology, Important stuff, Science

Mice discovered accidentally at the Wistar Institute in Pennsylvania have the seemingly miraculous ability to regenerate like a salamander, and even regrow vital organs.

Researchers systematically amputated digits and damaged various organs of the mice, including the heart, liver and brain, most of which grew back.

The results stunned scientists because if such regeneration is possible in this mammal, it might also be possible in humans.

The researchers also made a remarkable second discovery: When cells from the regenerative mice were injected into normal mice, the normal mice adopted the ability to regenerate. And when the special mice bred with normal mice, their offspring inherited souped-up regeneration capabilities.

Three-Dimensional Maps of Brain Wiring

Posted on 3rd November 2010 in Biology, Science

A team of researchers at the Eindhoven University of Technology has developed a software tool that physicians can use to easily study the wiring of the brains of their patients. The tool converts MRI scans using special techniques to three-dimensional images. This now makes it possible to view a total picture of the winding roads and their contacts without having to operate. Researcher Vesna Prčkovska defended her PhD thesis on this subject last week.

Electrons on the Brink: Fractal Patterns May Be Key to Semiconductor Magnetism

Posted on 2nd November 2010 in Hardware, Science

Just as the heartbeats of today’s electronic devices depend on the ability to switch the flow of electricity in semiconductors on and off with lightning speed, the viability of the “spintronic” devices of the future — technologies that manipulate both the flow and magnetic “spin” of electrons — will require similarly precise control over semiconductor magnetism.

Single Electron Reader Opens Path for Quantum Computing

Posted on 2nd November 2010 in Hardware, Science

A team led by engineers and physicists at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) in Sydney, Australia, have developed one of the key building blocks needed to make a quantum computer using silicon: a “single electron reader.”

Cassini Sees Saturn Rings Oscillate Like Mini-Galaxy

Posted on 2nd November 2010 in Science

Scientists believe they finally understand why one of the most dynamic regions in Saturn’s rings has such an irregular and varying shape, thanks to images captured by NASA’s Cassini spacecraft. And the answer, published online in The Astronomical Journal, is this: The rings are behaving like a miniature version of our own Milky Way galaxy.

Wilbert B. SMITH – Gravity Control / Binding Force / Caduceus Coil / Geo-Magnetic Generator

Posted on 18th October 2007 in Science

July 6, 1959

Dear Dr Hooper:

Your telegram was phoned to me just as I was getting ready to go on a field trip to determine the electrical conductivity of Lake Ontario, so I grabbed a handful of essays, put them in an envelope and sent them off to you although I didn’t have time to write. I hope there were sufficient copies, if not I have a few more and you are welcome to them. You certainly may make of them whatever use you can of this material.

We have rebuilt our machine and are now about to look for some of the answers to some questions. This unit has about 14 ceramic magnets mounted in a groove cut in a ¼ inch thick 6 inch diameter disc. We haven’t yet run it up to full speed as we are very cautious after the other exploding. We don’t expect much from this machine except maybe answers to a couple of pointed questions.

Thermionic Couple (”The Dotto Ring”) – Gianni A. DOTTO

Posted on 30th September 2007 in Science

The Dotto Ring was a successful treatment for cancer, yet it disappeared from public notice in the 1970s after the FDA suppressed the technology. In one account of the story, it has been claimed that the device also tended to LEVITATE, and this was the real reason the government suppressed the discovery. Dotto states (Section 2 below) that the combined Thompson-Peltier-Seebeck effect is akin to gravity.

Chauncy J. BRITTEN – Atmospheric Electrical Generator

Posted on 22nd September 2007 in Science

Daily News (Lansing, Michigan), December 31, 1930

Inventor Promises Free Light & Power

Electric light and power “as free as air” is the literal promise of Chancey J. Britten, 73-year old electrical wizard of Charlotte, Michigan. He is obtaining patents to safeguard his invention, a device which actually extracts electricity from the air without the aid of customary generators and motors. It consists of an aerial, home-made generator, and storage batteries. Photo shows him in front of his home, which he lighted for two years without expenditure of a penny for maintenance. At right is a closeup of the generator. Britten has defied anyone to explain the inner workings of his plant. Click here to read more.. »
